RIVER DAY 2010

The 2009 Quadricentennial celebration, recognizing the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s sail up the Hudson River, has created annual legacy events along the River to continue the recognition and celebration of our wonderful natural resource.  Some events for 2010 include:

Croton River Festival on 11 September
This event is an expansion of the “River Day” event the club sponsored last year which was very successful. The Croton Yacht Club will be the center for environmental and educational events. The events goal was to get people to the riverfront and provide and educate them on the history and ecology of the river as well as to showcase the recreational opportunities it provides.

From New York City to Albany, several organizations, Clearwater, Riverkeeper, Hudson River Foundation, Scenic Hudson, HRECOS, Hudson River Maritime Museum, Governor's Island Alliance, New York Parks and Trails, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Hudson River Estuary Program, have joined together to continue the legacy of the first River Day celebration during New York State's 400th anniversary celebration last year.

NEW YORK CITY
1 ‐4 PM –New York Harbor
Hundreds of recreational vessels will gather in the vicinity of the Statue of Liberty around 2 PM, then head north up the Hudson River.
12 ‐5 PM –Governors Island Family Festival
Music, live performers, arts and crafts, maritime education.

Hudson River Valley:
12 PM –Clearwater DEC Educational Sail - Sloop Clearwater departs Poughkeepsie
HRECOS Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System, Press‐only event at Waryas Park
Poughkeepsie to Kingston transit sail-Heritage vessels sloop Clearwater and schooner Mystic Whaler lead the flotilla
5 ‐6:00 PM – Arrival of flotilla, Kingston, Rondout Creek-Events hosted by Hudson River Maritime Museum

ALBANY
All Day–7th Annual Canal-way Trail Celebration Events throughout the New York State Canal System to celebrate River Day and National Trails Day.
